Oil Painting frames are that finishing touch to your masterpiece. I have many paintings that are without frames but I really love to add a frame if I really like the painting. A frame also looks more professional for resale value or for hanging on a wall.
My sisters oil painting that still hangs on my Moms wall has no frame and I think that's the way she likes it. So all in all I think that using a frame is a personal decision but like I said I would use one if I were to sell a painting.
If you need to have a painting framed and is not a standard size, or if you need the canvas stretched then I would suggest in using a professional to do the work.
