Framed Oil Paintings

Having an oil panting framed can be an expensive and time consuming adventure and that adds to the cost of your art purchase. Yes skilled framers are good at what they do not everyone can afford it. You can make your own frame for a fraction of the cost and the results look great.
If the artwork is a standard size canvas framing is pretty much a simple task you can do. First you need to find the size of your painting then find a craft shop near you that sells frames. Many of them will come with a backer board and glass. You will not need the glass. Your oil painting needs to breathe, so recommended it is never under a piece of glass.
These are the standard sizes.

* 6 x 8
* 8 x 10
* 11 x 14
* 12 x 16
* 14 x 18
* 16 x 20
* 20 x 24
* 22 x 28
* 30 x 40
You need to select your frame. The paintings
dimensions need to match the inside diameter
of the frame and make sure the frame is not
distracting to the artwork.
Lay the frame down on a flat surface
and insert your
painting into
the opening on the back
of your frame. Now you need to place one of the
clips on each side of the frame either
at the top or bottom depending on which
way it will hang and screw them in with
2 #8 screws.

Screw a strap hanger on each side of the frame approximately a third the way down using another 2 #8 screws. Don't tighten them to tight.

Now slide one end of the hanging wire in one of the strap hangers and tightly wrap the end around it about 5 times.

Now insert the other side and securely

wrap that end. Make sure you leave a little

slack in the wire.

Thats it! Hang on the wall and enjoy!

If you don't have a standard size and cant build a frame or need a canvas stretched, that's better left for a professional.
